• Proprionate is a good, general-purpose faceshield material. It offers good impact and scratch resistance, but limited heat resistance.
• Lexan® is the GE brand name for their polycarbonate. It has high impact resistance and will tolerate heat up to 375°F, but it has limited scratch resistance. Polycarbonate has UV absorption characteristics.
• PETG is an inexpensive general-purpose sheet material ideal for disposable applications.
• Hard Coatings improve a faceshield’s chemical and abrasion resistance and can make a faceshield last longer in some environments.
• Molded faceshields are higher quality, with superior optics, a smooth edge, and a finished curvature. Much higher quality than die-cut faceshields.
• Gold- and Silver-Coated shields are designed to protect against radiant heat, possibly as high as 2000°F. Hardcoated shields are chemnical and abrasion resistant.
• Electric ARC-shields are available with and without a chin protector. Both meet NFPA 70E-2000 hazard/risk category 2, and are rated at 10 cal/cm(2). Antifog coating included.
• Basic utility commodity faceshields are die-cut from flat sheet material to a proprietary tapered shape, which gives them an attractive shape.
